If a DOI, arXiv id or other unique id is present, that record is checked before any fuzzy title search. A DOI that points at a different paper is a mismatch, not a miss.
If a source fails, the reason is shown: offline, timeout, HTTP 429, CORS, or a source outage. A blocked or failed query is not evidence that the paper does not exist. Web references can be checked using the original page or a regular web search.
